King James V

The Crown · 1512 – 1542

King James V

The young king of Scots, coming of age in a kingdom divided by faction.

Profile

James V became king in 1513 as an infant, after his father fell at Flodden. His minority was dominated by rival noble factions, and in 1528 he took control of his own government.

Related to Patrick through the Stewart line, the young king stands at the edge of the story: a reminder that faith, family and crown were bound together in sixteenth-century Scotland.
